The last horse to bag the Indian Derby-Turf Invitation Cup double was Desert God, the highest stakes winner ever in this country, earning close to rupees 88 million, nine years back (2016), and RANQUELINO (9) aspires to become the 22nd one to bag the coveted double since the inception of the Indian Turf Invitation Cup in 1963, and, if he were to accomplish it, he would become the first horse ever to bag the Bangalore winter derby, Indian derby, and the Turf Invitation Cup. The fastest-finishing horse in the Indian Derby, POSITANO (8), who finished a close third, is capable of giving his stud farm the much-needed, big-race win. RODNEY (11) was beaten to second in both of his previous forays—the SI 2000gn and derby—on this track by Knotty Legend, who ruptured his suspensory in the derby, and he now stands retired, and with his nemesis out of the fray, he could get lucky the third time out on this surface.
