Spotlight :
Sterling all-purpose type who hasn't won since late 2023 but has been involved in strong events on the Flat, including at Royal Ascot, over hurdles and fences since; ran as well as he ever has when a close fourth in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham (2m, good to soft) last month; solid claims in refitted cheekpieces.

Spotlight :
Improved hurdle form when winning at Ayr last April and he looked a natural for fences when winning on chase debut at Wetherby (1m7f, good to soft) in October; the path hasn't been smooth for different reasons since and he had problems at the start of the Grand Annual at Cheltenham, thereafter unable to race as prominently as usual and losing heart; still of interest.

Spotlight :
Lost his way a touch in 2024 until returning from a break to win a well-contested Listed handicap at Fairyhouse (2m1f, yielding) in November and he lost nothing in a narrow defeat to a rapid improver at Leopardstown on Boxing Day; the handicapper has had his say but the yard has won two of the last five runnings; has to be respected.

Spotlight :
Won this from the front (soft; acts well on good) 12 months ago but, although he started the winter with two respectable efforts, his form since Christmas leaves much to be desired; back on that last winning mark and market support would suggest there have been green shoots evident at home since last seen in February.

Spotlight :
Has run well in handicaps over hurdles and fences on this track; capable of better form than he showed at Newbury in November and refitting cheekpieces seemed to help when winning at Doncaster (2m, good) in January; brought down on his only start since; likely type.

Spotlight :
Progressive 7yo who made it three in a row when winning on comeback at Newbury (2m, soft) where he travelled strongly until after the last but only just fended off a determined rival; effectively 8lb higher from out of the weights (3lb wrong) but he might have needed that run and do better yet.

Spotlight :
Generally quite progressive over the winter and there shouldn't be much between him and Dr T J Eckleburg on Haydock form (2m, soft) in November; however he couldn't play a part in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham in March and he's been left on the same mark in another warm race.

Spotlight :
Can lead; his one run here was a very respectable show until falling at the last in Grade 1 novice chase at the 2023 meeting; gained a useful win at Cheltenham (2m, good) in October and drying ground will suit but he needs to show he's well enough treated for this competitive a race.

Spotlight :
Ideally suited by a sharp 2m and he's back on the same mark as for an Ayr win last April; however, he prefers good to soft or slower ground and the sunny forecast spells danger; looks to have his work cut out trying to give weight to all bar one.

Spotlight :
All four chase wins on heavy and soft; disappointing favourite in the 2022 running of this but he was a C&D winner that autumn; said never to have travelled when pulled up in December but he redeemed himself in refitted cheekpieces when winning from Dr T J Eckleburg at Sandown (1m7f) in February; up 3lb to another career-high mark and today's different ground is a query.

Spotlight :
In good heart over the winter and there shouldn't be a huge amount between him and General Medrano and Gunsight Ridge on their respective Haydock and Sandown runs; however, all his best form is on soft and heavy ground so the surface switch is a worry.

Spotlight :
Has two ways of jumping but he's perfectly capable of a virtually unblemished round, as when so impressive in a good beginners chase at Fairyhouse (2m1f, soft; has won on good to yielding) last January; this season has gone badly so far but he returned with a bruised sternum when pulled up in January and would be very interesting if back to anything like his best; tongue tied for first time since 2021.

Spotlight :
Kept the excellent rules strike-rate going with a Carlisle win (2m, soft; effective on good to soft) in February but quicker ground raises some doubts against this more forbidding opposition.
