The 2023 and 2024 Edinburgh National winners return and need a revival, with first-time blinkers seemingly the main angle for last year's runaway winner Inis Oirr and wind surgery in the autumn perhaps holding the key for his predecessor Magna Sam (second choice) who shaped nicely on his first run since and has dropped to a very good mark. Bodhisattva was ahead of Magna Sam last time and looks best of the two Irish challengers, while Bretney has won three regional Nationals on soft ground and a resumption in progress from the Scottish National runner-up Surrey Quest is greatly feared. The vote, however, goes to ANGLERS CRAG who showed enough 16 days ago to suggest that he's about to return to last season's best, which saw him overcome a bad error to win the 4m Eider.[Richard Austen]
